In line with Freespace, the theme of the upcoming 16th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice, the Places that Remain conference aims to reflect on in the Lebanese territory, un-built spaces, their qualities, their histories and their potential.
Taking place at the Lebanese American University in Beirut on March 23, 24th, 2018; the conference hosts two papers by platau; focusing on our ongoing research:
1- strategies for the Lebanese coastal river system proposing new approaches to water infrastructure- presented by Sandra Frem in a panel and roundtable discussion entitled "LANDSCAPE HERITAGE: LAND MANAGEMENT POLICIES"

2- alternative spatial typologies for residential developments in unplanned towns, transforming set backs to meaningful open spaces- presented by Boulos Douaihy, in a panel and roundtable discussion entitled "ARCHITECTURE OF THE GROUND: THE UNBUILT WITHIN THE BUILDING LOT

The conference is organized by the School of Architecture and Design at the Lebanese American University jointly with the Department of Urbanism at Lebanese University, the Lebanese Landscape Association and the Arab Center for Architecture.
