platau's Solar Islands selected as finalist
Our submission to the 2010 United Arab Emirates Land Art Generator Initiative - Solar Islands - was selected as a finalist in their bi-annual competition. The goal of the Land Art Generator Initiative is to design and construct public art installations that combine aesthetics with clean energy generation. Our submission emphasizes the sun’s cycle during the
day and year and quantifies and shows the energy produced by sunlight. Metallic geodesic spheres sit on constructed dunes, which emphasize the moon's cycle through the different tidal conditions. The spheres are equipped with a photovoltaic hemisphere rotate on their axis followingthe movement of the sun during the day, collecting sunlight and transforming it into electricity stocked in underground batteries.
