Situated in a strategic island within proximity from historic Kaunas, the project acts simultaneously as a bridge and as a connector of pedestrian paths linking the island to the city.
The project is a linear element that bridges over the park, connecting its ends and allowing it to flow underneath it. Both sides of the island’s edges are raised to support the project as a bridge above the park -and flooding- level. The different pedestrian paths and flows start to create the volume’s shape. The form of the project allows it to become a crossing deck with panoramic views of the island and the city. The internal circulation is a closed loop on two levels, distributing the program is around it with transparent glass in circulation and social spaces and back-painted glass in galleries. The project thus takes the colors of the surrounding landscape.
The project acts as a varied receptacle of public space. Starting from both entrances that stretch out to the landscape to allow for outdoor exhibitions. The cafeteria and store, located at the garden level, are accessed directly from below. The roof offers a new experience of the island as it becomes part of the landscape.
